With ‘The Births, Deaths, Marriages, and Relationships Registration Bill’ coming into effect tomorrow (June 15th), former ‘Speak Up for Women’ members Daphna Whitmore and Ani O’Brien discuss the formation of SUFW to challenge the ‘Self ID’ aspect of the Bill, slipped in after the submission process that removed any checks and balances for changing sex on a birth certificate, and the campaign by councils and silence their group from discussing the Bill. That matter would finally be settled in the High Court, with the aid of the Free Speech Union, with ‘Speak Up for Women’ winning the right to hold meetings in public spaces.
